ENOSBURG FALLS– Helen G. Deaette, age 91, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.
She was born in Dunham, Quebec on March 31, 1932 to the late William and Ethel (Bidwell) Cummings.
Helen moved from Canada to Berkshire with her family when she was 14. While attending school she worked at Saint’s where she met her future husband, George Deaette. They married on June 23, 1950 and raised 5 children. Helen was able to stay home with her children in their early years, as they grew older Helen worked for Ben Franklin, and the Enosburg Elementary & High School cafeteria. She was a talented cook and was known for her homemade biscuits, baked beans, and signature donuts. Throughout the years, Helen and George spent much of their time bowling, and going on camping trips. She also enjoyed knitting and donating her creations to local schools, playing BINGO!, going for walks around town, mowing her own lawn, and tending to her flower beds. Most recently she found the most joy when spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching some of her favorite shows. Helen will be remembered for the pride she took in her independence, her kindness, and her unassuming sense of humor.
She is survived by her children, Gary Deaette and his wife Joanne of Enosburgh, Sheryl Reader and her husband Todd of Ocala, FL, Nancy Koenig of Enosburg Falls, Wendy Deaette of Ocala, FL, and Cindy Deaette of Ocala, FL; 13 grandchildren & 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; special nephews and nieces, Roland, Bobby, Johnny, Betty, and Mary; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, George W. Deaette; brothers, George, Peter, Robert, John, and Gerald Cummings; sisters, Dorothy Viens, and Audrey Cummings; brother-in-law, Frank Deaette; and sister-in-law, Barbara Deaette.
Family and friends are invited to Helen’s Life Celebration events on Thursday, June 1, 2023 to include visitation at 3:00PM with a memorial service at 4:00PM. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery, Missisquoi Street, Enosburg Falls.
