BAKERSFIELD - Henry Isidor Squee Lawyer, age 95, husband of the late Althema Theme Lawyer, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 10, 2012 at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
He was born January 22, 1916 in Bakersfield the son of the late Gordon & Bertha (Wagner) Lawyer.
Squee entered the U.S. Army in 1942 serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe during WWII receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. From 1948 to 1990 along with his wife, owned and operated Lawyers Garage and then Lawyers Store in Bakersfield. During his time in the garage he ran several race cars on the local dirt tracks. He was a former member of the Bakersfield Fire Dept. and had helped to build the original Fire House. He also served on the Prudential Committee for the Bakersfield Water District and was a member of the V.F.W. Robert Glidden Post #758 in St. Albans.
Squee enjoyed snowmobiling, playing horseshoes, chess and especially a good card game of any type. On the weekends, Squee and Theme enjoyed going out to the local dance halls.
He is survived by his son, Alan Lawyer and his wife Vera of Bakersfield; his foster daughter, Winifred Kuebler and her husband George of Swanton; his grandchildren, Marsha Bissonnette her husband Steven and their children Owen & Anya of Bakersfield, and Michael Lawyer his companion Vicky Lagrow and her children Ryan & Cody of Franklin; his brother, Donald Lawyer and his wife Pauline of Bakersfield; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Squee was predeceased by his sisters and their husbands, Bernice & Aubrey Churchill, Beatrice & Hubert Mike Young, and Lillian & Roger Baker.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 12:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Relatives and friends may call on the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the funeral.
