ENOSBURG - Herbert G. Nutting Sr., age 71, passed away Friday evening March 7, 2008 at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Richford, VT on April 25, 1936 the son of Cecile (Ryea) Nutting and the late Ernest Nutting.
Herb was employed at American Optical in Brattleboro for 20 years prior to moving back to Enosburg where he was employed at Wrightholm Bus Co. for 19 years. He also worked for Art Marston Gas & Oil Co. for 5 years. As a young man he farmed and logged. Through these jobs Herb gained the reputation as a master mechanic with the ability to fix anything.
Herb had many interests that included maple sugaring, a season that he looked forward to every year and his family and friends will always remember his quality fancy syrup that he produced. He also enjoyed deer hunting and passed on his knowledge and skills of the woods and hunting with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Thompson) Nutting of Enosburg. They were married July 25, 1956. He is also survived by his children, James Nutting and his wife Cindy of Keene, NH, Lisa Bergeron and her husband Thomas of Bakersfield, Deborah Aldrich of Richford, Walter Nutting and his wife Brenda of Dummerston, and Herbert Nutting Jr. of Enosburg; his mother, Cecile Nutting of Enosburg; 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; his siblings, Dorothy Booth of No. Troy, Ernest Nutting and his wife Sally of Mountain Home, ID, Ernestine Parker and her partner Jan Reinus of Eddieville, KY, Sandra Thompson and her husband Richard of Swanton, Wilma Boulanger and her husband Thomas of Newport, and Larry Nutting and his wife Darlene of So. Troy. Besides his father he was predeceased by sister, Glenna Bowman, Joyce Allen, and Deborah Nutting.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday evening March 11, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will be this spring in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until the hour of the funeral.
