BERKSHIRE - Huw Edwart Jones, age 74, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 16, 2015 at his home in Berkshire. He was born in Dolgelley, Wales, UK. on March 3, 1941, the son of the late John & Morfudd (Jones) Jones.
Huw left home at 15 to go to London as a carpenter's apprentice to the firm of Mayfield Limited, a joinery firm with a Royal Warrant "By Appointment to Her Majesty, the Queen", where he learned his trade as a master carpenter/joiner. He returned to Machynlleth, Wales where he owned his own construction business.
Huw was very Welsh proud. He loved to tell stories about being a member of the Welsh Republican Army, removing signs in English by the dark of night. He was one of the few members who was not rounded up and detained in gaol (to prevent any troublemaking) during the investiture of "Charlie" at Carenarvon Castle.
Huw came to the United States in 1978 by way of Painesville and Chardon, Ohio where he became known as the Crazy Welsh Carpenter . He worked as a self-employed furniture builder and carpenter. Huw was proud of his skill as a cabinetmaker and loved "wow"ing his customers with his modern designs and custom detailed craftsmanship.
Huw and family moved to Vermont in 1993. He worked at Wright & Morrissey as a laborer, carpenter and superintendent, working on many local projects including the renovation of Richford High School, of which he was most pleased to be a part. He also worked for Meach Cove Trust in Shelburne, where he was very happy to use his many talents as a part of the team there.
Huw loved his canine companions - from Whiskey, a corgi from his childhood to Bella who visited him in the hospital and nursing home and spent many hours at his bedside at home. In between he had Woofer (Woofer the Woof, the bad ass dog from the north country). Wink and Elmer, who shared his path. But his best buddy and inseparable companion was Guinness, the most awesome dog ever.
Huw's family would like to thank all of the many people who have helped them take such good care of Huw in the 12 years since his stroke, especially those from Franklin County Home Health, who have done everything they could possible imagine to make his life quality the best possible. They have all been very good at thinking out of the box for this client who was sometimes like a "square peg" who just didn't fit into the "round hole" of traditional care patterns!
He was the proud father of Alice Gwenno Dyfi and John Huw and loving partner of 35 years to Susan. He is also survived by his, daughter Petra Evans and family, brother Idris and family, both of Machynlleth, Wales.
