MONTGOMERY - James Milton Healy, Jr., age 58, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 22, 2014. He was born October 12, 1955 in Hyannis, MA the son of the late Loris Gertrude (Theriault) Healy & James Milton Healy Sr.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Vermont and a 1974 graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre. He began his military career by enlisting with the Army for Active Duty and eventually the National Guard. Jim was a 25-year Veteran Medic Sergeant in the Vermont Army National Guard, where he served in the 1st squadron, 172nd cavalry division and made many lasting friendships.
Jim was employed as a Corrections Officer and Counselor at St Albans Correctional Facility for many years, and was well known for his sharp sense of humor, integrity, perseverance and commitment. Jim had attained full Black Belt status in Taekwon-Do martial arts.
Jim enjoyed tinkering with his collection of motorcycles as well as keeping up with friends on the internet. He also enjoyed being with his dog Viktor, and leading a quiet life. Tough exterior aside, Jim had a soft side when it came to animals and family. His special gift was the talent to make others laugh. He loved to tell stories that left everyone in tears of laughter.
He is survived first, by his faithful dog Viktor, at his side to the end. He is also survived by stepchildren Courtney Gabaree and Kyle Gabaree of Fairfax, VT, and Jasmine Robair of Sheldon, VT; his siblings, twin sister Robin Matlack, her husband Chris Bleich of Edgewood, NM; sister Karen Parker, her husband Wayne, and sister Patricia Orlandi, all of Anchorage, AK; brother Robert Healy of Hyannis, MA; sister Becky Cataloni of Harwich, MA; cousins George Clain and his wife Melinda of Barre; Jim Dodge of San Francisco, CA; Daniel Dodge of Hobe Sound, FL; Lynda Hamby, her husband Kent, and aunt Ellen Moore, all of San Antonio, TX; cousins Sheila Guillette of Plainfield, VT; Katherine Dawson of Tilton, NH; John Dodge of Tilton, NH; and many special friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Berlin Corners Cemetery, Scott Hill Road, Berlin, VT.
