James Wright

FRANKLIN - James Arthur Wright, age 72, passed away Monday November 1, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born in Richford, June 14, 1938 the son of the late Oscar Wesley & Edith (Hill) Wright.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School, attended Plattsburgh State and graduated from Johnson State College in May of 1989.

Jim served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War from 1959 to 1967 receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then entered the Air National Guard of Vermont under the 158th TFG, where he served from 1969 to 1986, attaining the rank of Master Sargent. Jim also worked for the U.S. Immigration Service in St. Albans from 1990 to 2002.

Jim was well-known for his apple orchard in Franklin and was often referred to as The Apple Man . He enjoyed woodworking, studying history, fishing and, especially, spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of American Legion Post # 12 and had served the Town of Highgate as a lister.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Stanley) Wright of Franklin. Jim & Phyllis were married on December 1, 1961; his children, Denis Wright of Hinesburg, Lori Forgione and her husband Joseph of Highgate, and Heidi Sprague and her husband Frank of Claremont, NH; his grandchildren, Katharine Sprague, William Sprague and Adam Forgione; his siblings, Lorraine Mercy and her husband Richard of Franklin, Joyce Cassidy and her companion Leonard Martin of West Swanton, and Gregory Wright and his wife Jackie of Swanton; his sister-in-law, Nancy Magnant of Franklin; several niece and nephews. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Wright; and brothers-in-law, Gary Stanley and his wife Sheila, and Thomas Magnant.

A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held Sunday November 7, 2010 at 12:30 PM at the East Franklin Cemetery, Lake Road, Franklin with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
