RICHFORD - Janice Carol (Whims) Simmons, age 62, passed away Wednesday morning March 31, 2010 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Montreal, Quebec Canada on September 14, 1947, the daughter of the late William George & Bernice (Jordan) Whims.
Janice was raised in Montreal and moved to Richford in 1984. She was employed at CNCP Railroad from 1965 to 1987 as a telecommunications operator. In 1987 she started working for Vermont Creative Software Company in Richford and after a period of time working there she purchased the company and continued to operate it during her illness.
Janice enjoyed traveling, especially overseas, having visited, Europe and Africa. She also went on many cruises visiting several islands. Most important to Janice was her family. They will remember her as a very compassionate person and an excellent cook.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Simmons of Richford. They were married on April 12, 1984. She is also survived by her siblings, Ralph Whims and his wife Suzanne of St. Julie, Quebec, Julia Whims of Las Vegas, NV, and Sharon Whims of Montreal, Quebec. Her nieces, Anissa and her sons, Jacob and Ross, Melanie, and Keisha and her son, Korion; her nephew, Kaido and his wife Johanna. Her stepsons, Robert A. Simmons and his wife Rhonda of Charlotte, NC, and Dominique Simmons and his wife Heather of Burlington; her grandchildren, Sadie, Ashleigh, Dominique II, and Camryn; and special friend, Mary Boudreau of Franklin and other relatives and friends.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday April 7, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main Street, Richford.
A funeral service to be held in Montreal will be announced at a later date.
