RICHFORD - Jean Noel Desautels, age 88, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford after a brief illness.
He was born May 15, 1927 in St. Theodore DActon, Quebec to the late Omer & Yvonne (Dion) Desautels.
Jean attended school in St. Theodore DActon, Quebec. He married Noella Fontaine on October 2, 1948. Jean and Noella made their home in Richford where they farmed and raised their boys. They were devoted members of All Saints Catholic Church.
He had a love for working in the woods and carpentry. Jean worked at Blue Seal for 37 years until his retirement in 1990. During those 37 years, Jean and Noella also owned and operated various business. From the local tavern to a snowmobile shop. He had an extreme talent when it came to metal fabrication; he made the star that shines at Blue Seal during the holidays.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Noella (Fontaine) Desautels of Richford; his children and their spouses, Paul and Christine Desautels of Grayson, GA and Claude Desautels and his partner Shana Emch of Richford; his grandchildren, Lauren and Katelyn Desautels of Johnson, Josh Demar of Hyde Park and their mother Jodi Tomasi of Johnson and Emma & Sophia Desautels of Richford; his brothers, Gilles Desautels of Richford and Laurent Desautels of Waco, TX, his sisters, Germaine Provost and her husband George of St. Theodore DActon, Que. and Jacqueline Favreau and her husband Gilles of Sutton, Que. and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Jean was predeceased by his siblings, Laurentia & Laurette Courtemanche, Lucienne Dion, Yvette LaRocque and Marcel, Andre, Albert, Leo, Germain & Florian Desautels.
Visitation will be Friday, January 8, 2016 from 6-9 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 10 AM at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Fr. Karl Hahr officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery in Richford.
