SWANTON - Jean Marie (Barnes) Hakey, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at her home in Swanton.
Lovingly known as Grandma Jean, she was born February 8, 1942 in Winooski, VT. The daughter of LeoPaul Lavallee and Marie (Charland) Lavallee.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Jean worked at the U.S. air base in Colchester and the Fletcher Free Library in Burlington. When she moved to St. Albans she became the children's librarian where she was known as the story lady. Jean moved to Swanton and opened Grandma Jean's Day Care. She was a para-educator at the Mary Babcock School in Swanton until her retirement. After retirement she worked at the Great Laundromat in Swanton.
Jean loved spending time with her family and friends. Holidays were very special to her. She loved to decorate her home. She also loved spending time with her (forever young) Red Hat friends.
She leaves behind her loving children, Kellie Saboski, Shellie Partlow and her husband Jeff, Jullie Barnier and her partner Jim Coflice, Renee Drew and her friend Rich, and Kim Pedersen; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; sisters, Debra Walters and her husband Jeff and their son Adam, Lori Willhide and her husband Michael and their son Chris; brother, Bob Lavallee and his wife Susan and their children; and many friends, in-laws, and nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Darence Hakey; and her grandson, Shawn.
Friends & family are invited to Jean's life celebration on Monday, November 4, 2024 to include visitation from 10-11:00 AM followed with a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, VT. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton and a reception will be held at Nativity Parish Center.
