SHELDON- Joan N. Reed, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in St. Albans.
She was born in St. Albans on October 29, 1940 to the late George Sr. and Elizabeth (Tracy) LaCoste.
Joan was a life-long resident of Sheldon, attended Sheldon schools, and graduated from BFA St. Albans in 1959. After graduation she worked for Fonda Container briefly and then met her future husband, James Reed Sr. and were married on August 20, 1960. Together they had three children, and their home quickly became the gathering spot of the neighborhood. Joan and Jim enjoyed dancing every Saturday at the Sheldon Casino, snowmobiling, riding their motorcycles, camping, and attending fairs. Joan loved riding horses, reading, gardening, canning, completing word puzzles, knitting, crocheting, and baking. Joan reentered the work force when her children were in school and worked at BFA in the cafeteria, and later worked as a file clerk for the immigration contractor until becoming Jim's primary care giver. Joan was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and always made sure everyone was taken care of before herself. She spoke her mind, instilled the importance of independence in her family, and had a heart of gold.
She is survived by her children Lisa Seguin and her husband Steven of Sheldon, James Reed Jr. and his significant other Kelly of Sheldon, and Brian Reed and his wife Lucretia of New Mexico; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Brenda Cook and her husband Delbert of Sheldon; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James D. Reed Sr.; siblings, George LaCoste Jr., Elizabeth Wilcox; and infant sister, Loraine Evaline LaCoste.
Family and friends are invited to Joan's Life Celebration events on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 to include visitation from 1-2:00PM and a funeral service at 2:00PM at The Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, V 05450.
