SWANTON - John M. Hubbard, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at his home in Swanton.
He was born on the home farm in Swanton on March 29, 1941 to the late G. Raymond & Edith (Folsom) Hubbard.
John attended Swanton Elementary School as a young boy and soon after began work on the family farm. He always considered himself a dairy farmer, and carpenter. John farmed in Swanton on the home farm, then on the Mill River Road in Georgia, and later on the Ryan Road in Fairfield. Although John loved to farm, he turned to carpentry to pay the bills. He worked as a carpenter with his brother, Ralph; his son, Tim; and his nephew, Jeff for many years. Together they built multiple homes and dairy barns throughout Franklin County.
When John wasn't working you could usually find him puttering around the farm or riding his horses. He'd also enjoy spending time at his campsite on Fairfield Pond cooking over an open fire, deer hunting with Armand Gadouas at the camp in Northfield, ice fishing, wood working, and helping the Yates family during sugaring season.
He is survived by his wife, Julie (Tardif) Hubbard of Swanton; his children, Kimberly Russ and her husband William of Williston, Timothy Hubbard and his wife Joan of Swanton, Lana Renaudette and her husband Marcel of Highgate, Peggy Howrigan and her husband David of Fairfield, Eric Hubbard of Swanton, Emily Adams and her husband Darren of Enosburg Falls, and Estelle Schukei and her husband Steven of Glen Ridge, NJ;18 grandchildren & 22 great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Herb Dunbar; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, George Hubbard and his wife Eugenia, and Ralph Hubbard and his wife Patricia; his sister, Virginia Dunbar; and his first wife, Shirley Hubbard passed away in March of 2022.
