SWANTON – John F. Montiel, age 81, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.
He was born in Freeport, NY on April 22, 1939 to the late John & Pauline (O’Brien) Montiel.
John was born and raised in New York. Throughout his life he lived in New York, Maine, and Vermont for the past several years. He worked for Grumman Aerospace for 30 years and the United States Department of Justice for 10 years as an Immigration Officer. John’s favorite hobbies included motor boating and sailing, scuba diving, and flying. He loved living on Maquam Shore and volunteering at the local senior meals and with the High Swans.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly (Hawkins) Montiel of Swanton; their daughter, C. “Monti” Montiel-Kraft and her wife Lori Kraft of Swanton; a son, John Montiel of New York, NY; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Fairweather of Long Island, NY; and a brother-in-law, Roland Hawkins and his wife Karen of California. John was predeceased by his parents.
John’s family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of the Meadows for the thoughtful, and tender care he received during his time there. They are truly grateful for the peace of mind you provided.
In keeping with John’s wishes his body was donated to the University of Vermont Medical Center Anatomical Donation Program.
