BAKERSFIELD - Joseph W. Kittell, age 77, passed away Saturday morning September 3, 2011 at the Burlington Health & Rehab Facility.
He was born December 4, 1933 in East Fairfield the son of the late Olin & Leona (Marcette) Kittell.
Joe was a lifelong resident of East Fairfield and Bakersfield. At an early age he was employed at the St. Johnsbury & Lamoille County Railroad for 4 years prior to entering the U.S. Army serving in Germany during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge he went back to work at the railroad for 22 years before transferring to the Central Vermont Railroad for another 22 years. Upon his retirement from the railroad he became a school bus driver for several years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post # 42 of Enosburg, VFW Robert Glidden Post # 758 of St. Albans and the Moose Lodge # 1090 of St. Albans. He enjoyed attending the Senior Center in St. Albans and also enjoyed playing cards and tinkering on cars.
He is survived by his children, Cindy Holbrook and her husband Greg of Colchester, Laurie Brown of Marion, NC, Sheila Little and her husband Frank of East Fairfield, Jody Kittell and his wife Tracy of Holland, Bob Bovat and his companion Heidi Hill of Bakersfield, and David Kittell and his wife Angela of Enosburg; 13 grandchildren, Tasha, Tyler, Crystal, Jason, Brian, Victoria, Justice, Tenzin, Casey, Anna, Carissa, Hunter & Matthew; a great grandson, Daxtin; his brothers, Robert Kittell and his wife Linda of Fritch, TX, and Richard Kittell of Morrsiville; his sister; Yvette Rivers and her husband Ralph of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Dorothy Westcom of Bakersfield. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his wife of 20 years, Gleva (Gilbert) Kittell in 1967. He was also predeceased by his sister, Betty Sheldon.
Funeral services will be held Thursday September 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment with military honors will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-7 PM.
