MONTGOMERY VILLAGE - Joseph H. Ostrout, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born October 25, 1944 in North Brookfield, MA the son of the late Leonard & Mary (Miner) Ostrout.
Joe grew up in Westfield, VT where he was known as the Buck Hill Boy . He moved to Cailfornia where he worked for the Ford Motor Company as a line leader and then moved back to New England and worked at Beatty Electrical in New Hampshire as a machinist and then at the Burlington Free Press in distribution and as a professional cleaner for Harry Loso both in Burlington. He moved to Montgomery in 1984 and has made his home with Brenda Elkins for the past 13 years.
Joe loved to play musical instruments, especially the guitar and fiddle. He and Doug Corwell formed the band The Bums that played in several venues around the county. As a young boy he also loved to play baseball with his brothers.
He is survived by his caregiver, Brenda (Elkins) Ostrout of Montgomery; his children, Leonard Ostrout of Swanton, Kevin Ostrout and Doug Ostrout both of Spokane Valley, WA; his step daughter, Wendy Riegers of Mission Viejo, CA.; his grandchildren, Jacob Ostrout & Kristen Beane; step children (Brendas family), Carl Root and his wife Peggy of Milton, and Donna Corron and her husband Charles of Fort Covington, NY; step grandchildren, Samantha Bredin and her husband Connor, Carmen Root, and twins, Sierrah & Savannah LeClaire; and a step great grandchild, Harper Rae Bredin; his siblings, Elizabeth Ostrout of Hartford, CT, and Thomas Ostrout and his wife Diane of Inverness, FL; several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Buddy, Joes Mini Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix. Beside his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Joseph Ostrout, Jr.; his brothers, George & Charles Ostrout.
In keeping with Joes wishes he was cremated. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Montgomery Center Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
