ENOSBURG FALLS - Joyce E. Read - Passed to her eternal heavenly home on January 24, 2011 at her home after a valiant, courageous battle with lung cancer. She met the challenges of her illness with a strong will, undying faith and sense of humor. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 59 years, her children and grandchildren.
She was born in St. Albans on October 14, 1930 the daughter of Bert & Anna (Matte) Early.
Joyce graduated from St. Marys High School in 1948. On July 4, 1951 she married David Read in East Fairfield. Throughout her married life she was employed at Peoples Trust Company, Fairfield Town Clerks Office, Swanton Packing Inc. and the Fairfield School Systems.
Joyce was an accomplished homemaker and cook. Her greatest skills lay in her ability to bring joy and peace to the household through every phase of her childrens childhood. Her calming voice and demeanor could diffuse any crisis. The sparkle in her green eyes and contagious laughter made each and every opportunity to visit or speak with her a joy to all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She loved to read, dance and sing and spend time with her friends and family. She shared this love with her children and grandchildren especially during Christmas and birthday gatherings. Having lost her mother at a young age, she rejoiced in the joys & blessings of raising her children. She had a very deep faith in God and was a lover of all people.
Joyce strived each and every day of her life to treat others with respect and compassion and was never one to turn anyone away from her home during their time of need. Her welcoming personality made her home a favorite stop for many of her childrens friends and it was not uncommon for those friends to pause and converse with her at great length during each visit as she was a great communicator with all ages. Her own family takes comfort from the tributes of her many friends and acquaintances whose lives she touched with her earnest cheerfulness. Joyce had an unfailing ability to rejoice in the good fortune of others, celebrate their success, and encourage them in the face of seeming setbacks. She had the gift of recognizing others woundedness and was unfailingly kind. Joyce had a wonderful sense of humor and had a sense of grace about her that was and will continue to be an inspiration to others.
You can shed tears that I am gone, or smile because I lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that I will come back, or
You can open your eyes and see all that I have left.
Your heart can be empty because you cant see me, or
Can be full of the love we shared.
