RICHFORD - Judith A. Butler, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter's home in Richford.
She was born in Richford on October 26, 1944 to the late Charles & Mary Ann (Soutiere) Broe.
A devoted mother, loving sister, and cherished friend, Judy's life was marked by her unwavering compassion and kindness. She dedicated over 20 years as a case manager for the State of Vermont, where she touched the lives of countless individuals. Judy's remarkable organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping were testament to her commitment to those she served. She was also an excellent writer and wrote poetry and short stories.
She was known far and wide for her baking prowess, especially her beloved Christmas cookies, donuts, and banana cream pie, which brought joy and comfort to family and friends. She had a zest for life, enjoying trips to casinos and "Moose Alley" in Pittsburg, New Hampshire with the love of her life, Jerry Butler. Their adventures in Las Vegas and Montreal were fondly remembered. After Jerry's passing, Judy found joy in trips to the Akwesasne casino with her dear cousin and friend, Jeanette Nichols, who was like a sister to her.
Judy is survived by her children, Leshia Elkins and her significant other Stephen Desautels, K.C. Lagro and his significant other Michelle Wells, David Lagro Jr. and his significant other Lori Brenenstuhl, and Jerrie-Jo Butler and her husband James Goldmann; step-children, Lorie Jo Tipsord and her husband Bob, and Joe Butler; 20 grandchildren, Josh, Joseph, Jacob, Jeremiah, Ben, Caleb, Jordan, Kieran, Lucas, Cole, Alison, Lacie, Tabor, Anna, Travis, Lindsey, Christian, Stana, Brittney, and Jesse; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; siblings, Ernest "Bobby" Broe and his wife Susan, Timothy Broe and his wife Patty, and Joseph Broe and his wife Laura; several nieces & nephews; and her beloved dogs, Chewie & Precious. In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Jerry Butler; and her step-son, John Butler.
In keeping with Judy's wishes, there will be no services for her at this time. Her family will be holding a celebration of her life at a later date.
