ENOSBURG FALLS, VT - Judith L Derby, 67 passed away February 18, 2011 at Fletcher Allen Health Care with her family at her side, after a period of failing health.
She was born November 29, 1943 in St. Albans, VT, the daughter of the late Gerald and Marion (Wilder) Hoburn. She grew up in Sheldon Springs and attended Bellows Free Academy. In 1963 she married her high school sweetheart Lyle. Judy was a jack of-all-trades, counting secretary, Avon Representative, and stay-at-home mother among her many jobs.
During her 40 year marriage to Lyle they enjoyed many activities such as camping, horseback riding, traveling, snowmobiling and riding motorcycles. In recent years, she enjoyed swimming, playing cards, gardening, tending her fish pond, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Katherine Derby, and her companion Jane Durfey of Rochester, NH.; Michael Derby and his companion Cathy Godin of Enosburg Falls, VT; her grandchildren Jason, Alan & Victoria Derby, Jane\u0027s son Lucas Durfey and Cathy\u0027s son Chris DeRosia; her nephew Ricky Hoburn of Sheldon and his family; her niece Ann Mason of Richford and her family. She is also survived by her caregiver Molly Stetson of Enosburg Falls; and close family friend Charles Shaw, also of Enosburg Falls.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Lyle, her brother Richard Hoburn; and brothers-in-law Earl & Peter Derby.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave, Enosburg Falls. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday February 20th from 1-3pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Monday February 21st at 11am, with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Private interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
