FRANKLIN - Karen Lynn Ferland, age 56, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
Karen was born in St. Albans on November 20, 1968 to Doris (Gagne) Durenleau and the late Daniel Durenleau.
Karen was a shining light in the lives of everyone who knew her. Her vibrant personality and infectious laughter could brighten the darkest of days. She dedicated over 37 years of her life to the art of cosmetology, beginning her journey at the Vermont School of Cosmetology, where she not only honed her craft but also inspired a new generation of beauticians as an instructor. Her other salon experiences included Hair-A-Rangers and Market Place Hair, each a testament to her love for her work and her clients.
Beyond her profession, Karen found joy and fulfillment in life's simple pleasures. She cherished riding her motorcycle through the scenic Vermont countryside, quilting beautiful pieces, working in her garden, and canning vegetables. The holidays were especially precious to her, as she loved to spend them surrounded by her beloved family. She loved baking, and cooking, and was affectionately referred to as a descendant of "Meme Next Door" for her delicious pies, especially her Maple Cream Pie. Karen had a love for animals, particularly dogs, and she and Chris rescued several throughout their time together.
Left to cherish Karen's memory is her husband, Christopher Ferland; mother, Doris Durenleau; sisters, Ann-Marie Bergeron and her husband Jeff, and Laurie Bedard-Brousseau and her husband Chad; in-laws, Raymond & Sandra Ferland; brother-in-law, Marc Ferland and his significant other, Cheri Cushing; niece & nephews, Mathieu Bergeron, Michel Bergeron, Mason Bedard, Taylor Brousseau, and Dustin Wetherby; special uncle and aunts, John Gagne, Sandra Gagne, and Ramona Cline; several cousins, especially Joanne Garrow, and Mary Beaulieu; and many clients and friends in the community. Karen was predeceased by her father, Daniel Durenleau; nephew, Glen Wetherby; and many cousins, aunts & uncles, and her grandparents.
