HIGHGATE – Kathleen J. Gagné, age 89, also known as “Katie”, Meme, Gramma, and Grammy passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Villa Rehab Center in St. Albans with her loving family by her side.
She was born on December 13, 1935 to the late Everett & Berdina (Stetson) Jenne.
Katie's life was a tapestry woven with cherished memories, laughter, and love. Known for her warm spirit, she found joy in going dancing, fair hopping and participating in women’s and mixed bowling leagues, where her playful nature shined brightly. Katie relished the moments spent gathering with her loved ones and cherished greeting her grandchildren at the circle at the end of Gagne Road with a wave or a smile.
Throughout her life, Katie worked tirelessly alongside her husband on their farm. Her career also included valuable contributions to Union Carbide and her skilled work as a seamstress for Needleman’s for 22 years. Family held a special place in Katie's heart. She treasured her time at the Commo family camp on Lake Carmi with her cousins, Mary Commo and her late husband Wilfred. She loved visiting her nephew, Phil Ploof, and his wife Cindy, at their lake lot in Georgia and their home in Florida. Katie loved to travel and spent many hours with Denis participating in the Trans-Border Two Cylinder Tractor Club.
Katie is survived by her 3 children, Denise (Jeff) Morin, Gary Desrochers, and Nancy Hawkins; grandchildren, Jessie (Scott) Ford, Jeffery (Tanya) Morin, Shawn Mulcahy, Bobbi Jo Desrochers, and Toni Bushey; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. Katie is also survived by her extended family, 3 daughters, Karen (Allen) Fortin, Nancy (Joe) Commo, and Debra Gagné; grandchildren, Adam (Mollie & Hallie) Fortin, Brian (Emily) Fortin, Caitlin (Brian) Dawicki, Jessica (Ted & Jayden) Commo, Donna (Mike) Messier, Danielle (Joey) Bishop, and Christine (Tyler) Messier; her beloved fur babies, Ziggy & Marley; and several siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Katie was predeceased by her parents, Everett & Berdina Jenne; her husband, Denis Gagné; her son, Tim Desrochers; and her siblings.
In keeping with Katie’s wishes, her family will be holding a celebration of her life at a later date.
