Lester Hakey

BAKERSFIELD - Lester Hakey, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 at his home in Bakersfield.

Lester was born on March 5, 1948, to George and Ella (Root) Hakey.

Lester was born and raised in Swanton and attended Swanton High School. Lester enjoyed playing baseball, fishing, and hunting. Lester served two tours in Vietnam with the United States ARMY. Following the ARMY, Lester got married, and started his singing career and making records in Nashville.

Lester is survived by his sons, Joseph Hakey and his wife Jenni, and Lester Hakey; grandchildren, Meghan Hakey and her husband Jake Colby, and Natalie Hakey and her partner James; brothers, Richard (Dick) Hakey, Donald Hakey and his wife Cindy, and Tom Hakey; sister, Beatrice St. Francis and her husband Gary; sisters-in-law, Sue Hakey and Waltraud Hakey; companion, Dale Iwaskiewicz; longtime friend, Garth Leavitt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lester was predeceased by his parents, George and Ella Hakey, and siblings Robert (Bob) Hakey, Stephen Hakey, and Shirley Hakey.

Family and friends are invited to Lester's life celebration events on Saturday, December 16th, 2023 to include visitation from 1-2:00PM with a funeral service following at 2:00PM at the Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, VT 05488. A burial with military honors will take place on Friday, May 17th, 2024 at 1:00PM at Riverside Cemetery in Swanton, VT 05488.
