BAKERSFIELD - Linda Lou Doane, age 62, passed on to her new life on December 23rd, 2015, at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT, with her brother and sister-in-law, Tennyson and Joy, at her side.
Linda was born on November 8th, 1953, the eldest child of the late Holden and Laura Doane of Bakersfield.
Linda loved her family, enjoyed young children, was interested in medicine and fascinated with machines, tools, computers and technology. She was involved in all of these varied interests at different points in her life. She completed a B.A. in Nursing at University of Vermont in 1975, and worked caring for children during the summers to support herself. Linda began her nursing career in Florida, later completing her RN at Texas Womens University in Dallas, and continued work as a nurse for several years.
Linda attended the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute in Utica, NY, completing a degree in computer programming. She used this combination of expertise to work for companies that wrote programs for medical applications in Albany, NY, and Dedham, MA, among others.
In later years, Linda wanted to be closer to family and moved back to Vermont. She worked at IBM in Burlington for over 10 years while living near her parents and brother and his family in Bakersfield. She cared very deeply for her family, including her nieces and nephews and their children and enjoyed being near them as they grew up. While in Bakersfield, she also became a member of the Bakersfield and Fairfield United Church and the Franklin United Church.
Linda cared for her father, Holden, for the last few years of his life"a truly loving and devoted daughter"bringing to bear much of the nursing expertise she had gained so many years before. In turn, she was blessed by, and so appreciative of the generous and kind care given to her in her illness by family and friends.
Linda is survived by three siblings"Martha Cooper and her husband Reid of Providence, RI; Tennyson Doane II and his wife Joy of Bakersfield, VT; and Perry Doane and his wife Rebekah of Decatur, IN"and their children and grandchildren: Tennyson Doane III, his wife Jennie and two daughters, Adaleigh and Brooke of Syracuse, NY; Matthew Cooper, his wife Jessie, and children Eleanore and Albert of Luoyang, China; Catherine Cooper of Vancouver, BC; Cameron Doane and his wife Emily of Woodbridge, VA; Caeyln Doane of Bakersfield, VT; and Holden and Rebekah Doane of Decatur, IN. She is also survived by her uncles and aunts: Harrison Doane of Bakersfield, Cartlon and Phyllis Doane of Canton, NY, Waynona Brown of Champaign, IL, and Patte Richards of Traverse City, MI; as well as numerous cousins including Marie Doane of Morrisville, VT who was especially attentive to Linda in her last months.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 6 at 11 AM at Bakersfield United Church. Visiting hours will be held January 5 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment will take place this June in Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
