SWANTON/DELAND, FL– Lois A. Hasker, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington with her daughters by her side.
She was born in Yankton, SD on April 14, 1929 to the late Thomas Patrick and Anna (Huber) Slowey. She grew up Yankton, graduated from Yankton High School and married Les Hasker, also of Yankton, on November 14, 1949. They shared a wonderful 50-year marriage.
Lois and Les spent the early years of their marriage in Yankton, moving to Brownsville, Texas where Les began his government career as a Border Patrol Inspector in 1956. They enjoyed their time there, making dear life-long friends. When Les was assigned to the Canadian border, they relocated to Swanton, Vermont where they lived until moving to Deland, Florida in 1999. Lois remained in Deland after Les died in 2000 until her declining health necessitated a move closer to family.
Lois was an active member and volunteer at her children's schools, local hospitals, and the churches she attended. A woman of strong faith, she attended the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Swanton, St. Peter's in Deland, Florida, and most recently St. John Vianney in So. Burlington.
Lois adored her grandchildren and great grandson and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed traveling, and she and Les took numerous cross country trips together, combining sightseeing, genealogical research and visits with family and friends along the way. She loved to read, play cards and games, dance, shop for shoes and socialize with her many friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Leslie A. Hasker and her husband J. Kevin Graffagnino, and Elizabeth (Hasker) Manning and her husband Rick Manning; granddaughters, Margaret (Manning) Frye (Craig), Meredith C. Manning, and Madeline P. Manning (Chase Papariello); great grandson, Mathison O. Frye; sisters, Elinor Perry, Maxine Lanctot, and Rita Seeley; daughter-in-law, Simone Hasker and her family; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Lois was predeceased by her husband, Les; her son, Michael W. Hasker; granddaughter, Mae Manning; and brothers, Bud Slowey and Dickie Ray Slowey.
Lois was well loved and will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, gentle nature, strength, and her remarkable ability to make those around her feel loved and cared for. We will miss her greatly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 1:00PM at The Church of Nativity Catholic Church, located on 65 Canada Street in Swanton, Vermont. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.
For those who wish, contributions in Lois’ memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
