FAIRFIELD- Louise Covi, age 90, passed away on Saturday, February 25th, 2023 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1932 to the late Luigi and Mary (Covi) Rigos. She grew up in the Dolomite Mountains of northeastern Italy with storied beginnings of traveling to the United States with her parents, evading bombings during WWII, and working in a castle as the private caretaker for a Countess. In 1953, she met and married the local cheesemaker Ernesto Covi, in Malosco Italy. Together, they immigrated to the United States with their young son, Giovanni (John) in 1955.
Louise enjoyed singing opera, gardening, sewing, raising calves, and especially cooking a meal for anyone who came through the door. No one ever left hungry, including stray cats and dogs. She loved telling her grandchildren stories of growing up in rural Italy and of her adventures as a child.
She is survived by her children John Covi of Fairfield, VT; Ida Covi and her partner Peter Angood of Ocala, FL; Lorraine Covi of Santa Fe, NM; her grandchildren, Shane Wheel of NYC, NY, Stephanie and her husband Michael Del Priore of Odessa, FL, and her great-grandchildren, Lucca Fox and Capri Sky Del Priore.
Friends and family are invited to Louise's Life Celebration to include a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 10th, 2023 at 2:00PM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fairfield.
A burial will be held this spring at St. George's Cemetery in Bakersfield.
