BAKERSFIELD - Luke A. Monty, age 65, passed away May 23, 2012 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born in Colchester on December 28, 1946 the son of the late Maurice Monty and Lora (Perry) Monty.
Luke grew up on the family farm in Enosburg until he bought his own in Bakersfield in 1985. He married Judy (Benjamin) Monty on July 30, 1983 and even watched someone milk cows on his honeymoon he loved farming so much. Lukes hobbies included snowmobiling, cutting wood, sugaring, playing cards and riding the back roads. It wasnt uncommon to find the neighborhood children gathering at the Monty home, Luke and Judy had many adopted children. He will be remembered as a father figure to many and a great practical joker.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Monty of Bakersfield; his children, Heather Monty of East Fairfield, Mark Monty and Katy Monty both of Bakersfield; his grandchildren, Haylee Monty and Elizabeth Monty; his mother, Lora Monty of Enosburg; his brother, Philip Monty and his wife Barbara of Enosburg; his sister, Suzanne Granger and her husband Allen of East Calais; Judys son, Casey Haskell and his wife Missy and their children Ozee and Wylee all of Bellows Falls; his father in law, Stuart Benjamin of Highgate; his mother in law, Betty Wedge of Richford; his sisters in law, Kelly Benjamin and Joann Bishop both of East Fairfield and Jamie Wedge of Chazy, NY and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Luke was predeceased by his brothers, David Monty and Weston Turner.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday May 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, East Bakersfield Rd., Bakersfield.
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the funeral.
