RICHFORD - Madelaine M. Haggerty, age 84, passed away Friday morning March 7, 2008 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born May 26, 1923 in Orange, VT the daughter of the late Carroll S. & Blanche (Audette) McAllister.
She was a resident of Richford most of her life and was a member of the Richford United Methodist Church. In Madelaines younger years she worked at Northland Hockey Stick Factory in Richford, helped her husband Clayton farming in Vermont, and then logging in Vermont & Maine. She later took nurses training courses and earned her L.P.N. and worked at Verdelle Village nursing home in St. Albans for a few years and also at Franklin County Home Health Agency from 1975 to 1988.
Among her many hobbies and interests Madelaine enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, fishing with her Aunt Fannie, and playing cards. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martha Washington Chapter.
She is survived by 2 sons, Henry H. Haggerty and his wife Virginia of Lake City, FL, and Allen G. Haggerty of Williston; 2 daughters, Carolyn Smith and her husband Real of Richford, and Wilda Haggerty of Richford; 9 Grandchildren, Connie Scott, Laura Broe and her husband Joe, Travis Smith, Dennis Haggerty and his wife Sheila, Andrew Haggerty and his wife Adriana, Jennifer Desautels and her husband Joel, Cristy Sherrill and her husband Josh, Justin Haggerty and his wife Treah, and Ryan Haggerty and his fianc Jessica Smith; 8 great grandchildren, Samantha Gingras, Danielle Gingras her friend Josh Smith, Dustin Broe, Denise Broe, Briana Haggerty, Heather Haggerty, Darla Haggerty, and Baby Desautels expected in June; a great great grandson Joshy Smith Jr.; 2 step great grandchildren, Zane & Donovan; 1 brother, Ivan McAllister of Enosburg Falls; several nieces and nephews; and 56 first Cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Clayton Haggerty; half sister, Hattie Weaver; half brother, Lyle McAllister; and brother-in-law and his wife, Francis & Ethel Haggerty.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Richford United Methodist Church, River St., Richford, VT with Reverend Heidi Reinker officiating. Interment will take place this spring at the Richford Center Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the funeral.
