Madeline McDermott

ENOSBURG FALLS, VT - LAKELAND, FL - Madeline Victorine (Jette) McDermott, age 82, passed away Thursday evening, April 30, 2015 at her home with her loving family at her side. Madeline left the world as she lived her life, with dignity and grace.

Madeline was born in St. Albans, VT on September 6, 1932, the daughter of the late Henry & Mabel (Columb) Jette. She grew up in Franklin, VT and graduated from Franklin High School as valedictorian of her class. In 1952, Madeline earned her Registered Nurse license from DeGoesbriand Hospital and worked as a nurse for a short time before she married the love of her life, Stanley McDermott, Jr. (Buzz). They moved to Enosburg Falls in 1956, where they raised their five children. Madeline enjoyed spending the summers at the family camp on Lake Carmi.

Madeline co-owned a milk hauling company, McDermotts Transportation, with her husband, Buzz. In the 60s the logo MT was created for McDermotts Transportation, although some employees and friends affectionately coined the business Madelines Trucks . Buzz and Madelines two sons, Mark and Peter, continued to run the company after Buzzs retirement.

Madeline loved traveling. She and Buzz traveled to many destinations until Buzzs death in 1994. In recent years, she and her children took wonderful trips, including traveling to Alaska and Ireland. During the past two summers, Madeline fulfilled her life-long dream of traveling to Europe in the company of friends.

Madeline was a member of the Modern Dozen 500 card club for decades. She took up golf in her 60s and was a member of the Enosburg Falls Country Club and the Highland Fairways Golf Club, where she hit a hole-in-one. She learned to play bridge in her 70s and enjoyed her bridge clubs in FL and VT. Life was a never-ending learning experience for Madeline. Madeline loved life!

In 1996, Madeline became a snowbird and spent her winters in Lakeland, FL. She was very active in the Highland Fairways community and enjoyed her many new-found FL friends. She met James Miller (Jim) in her new community.

Madeline was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls, VT and Resurrection Catholic Church in Lakeland, FL.

Madeline was extremely devoted to her family. She made her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel loved and her love was unconditional.

Madeline is survived by her children, Mark McDermott and his companion Tammy Baisley of Enosburg Falls, Nancy McDermott and her husband Joe Seguin of Newark, VT, Mary Ann McDermott of St. Albans, Patricia McDermott and her husband Robert Anderson of Enosburg Falls, and Peter McDermott and his wife Beth of Enosburg Falls; her grandchildren, Maureen, Helen, Alice & Isabelle McDermott, Anna Starr OShea, Leah Starr Finch, Seth Starr, Trish Adams, Isaac Foote, Adrea Elomri, Padriac Parent, Jeffrey, Jessica & Kaylah McDermott; her great grandchildren, Emily & Wyatt Adams, Ayla & Arie Elomri, Ryker & Tenley Foote, and Ellery OShea; her sister, Rosemary Stanley of Highgate; her brother, Edmund Jette of Jacksonville, AR; her brother-in-law, Philip Boudreau of Franklin; her sister-in-law, Ruth Titemore of Franklin, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Besides her parents, Madeline was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Stanley Buzz McDermott; her husband of five years, James Miller; her great grandsons, Parker, Brandon and Jacob Adams; her sister, Pauline Boudreau; her sister-in-law, Beverly Jette; and her brother-in-law, Bruce Stanley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 222 Missisquoi St., Enosburg Falls with Rev. Roger Charbonneau celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT..
