RICHFORD - Marcel Albert Martel, age 81, passed away Thursday morning July 10, 2008 at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
He was born December 16, 1926 in Granby, Quebec Canada the son of the late Joseph & Olida (Smith) Martel
Marcel was employed at Sweat-Comings for over 25 years retiring upon their closure. He was also a farmer for many years. Following his retirement he enjoyed mowing lawns and snow blowing sidewalks and driveways for his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed playing cards and playing solitaire on the computer. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford. Marcel married Lucille Laroche on October 27, 1945 she predeceased him on September 26, 1996.
Marcel is survived by his second wife Margaret (Cleveland) Lumbra - Martel; 2 sons, Rene Martel and his wife Rebbecca of Berkshire, and Joseph Martel and his wife, Dianne Bessette of Richford; 2 daughters, Mary Jane Laroche and her husband Germain of Arcade, NY, and Lorraine Bourassa and her husband Richard of Colchester; 4 grandchildren Chantal Wiedmann and her husband Rick, Linda Hurlburt and her husband Chris, Renee Bourassa, and David Bourassa, 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Romauld Martel of Plymouth, MA; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Joseph & Olida Martel, his first wife, Lucille (Laroche) Martel. Marcel was predeceased by a grandson, Josepha Laroche; his siblings, Maurice, Eugene & Florence.
Funeral services will be held Monday July 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be held at the convenience of the Family in Hillside Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4-6 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
