RICHFORD - Margaret F. Maggie Rivers, age 83, passed away Saturday morning May 21, 2011 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans surround by her loving family.
She was born in Berkshire on July 25, 1927 the daughter of the late Lyman & Ethel (Lawyer) Dudley.
Maggie was a lifelong resident of Richford and for the past two years she resided at Our Lady of the Meadows where she made many special friends. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 12 of Richford and a member of the Richford 1st Baptist Church. She worked as a cook at the Richford High School, Pats Place and the Richford Country Club. She also worked as a child care provider and sewed at the Richford Sewing Shop.
Maggie enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing BINGO, watching TV, talking to her friends and family on the phone and most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Rivers and his wife Mary Ann Westover of Fairfax; a daughter, Julie Rivers and her husband Harry Mashtare of Swanton; daughters-in-law, Marilyn Rivers of Richford, and Linda Rivers of Panama City, FL; her grandchildren, Chad, Kristie, Jennifer, Tim, Jesse, Carrie, Uriah, Sarah & Irene; her great grandchildren, Chelsea, Mackenzie, Morgan, Madalyn, Jacey, Alan, Katelyn, Jaden, Dylan, Olivia, and Matthew; a sister, Dorothy Lawyer of Enosburg Falls; her brothers, Myron Dudley and his wife Esther of Highgate; and Donald Putnam and his wife Gretchen of Highgate; several special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Maggie was predeceased by her husband, Alden Rivers on December 15, 2008. Alden & Maggie were married on March 30, 1946. She was also predeceased by her sons, Orin Rivers on January 21, 1993 and Alan Rivers on December 26, 2006; her twin sister, Marjorie Wynn; and brother, Lynwood Dudley.
A memorial service will be held Thursday May 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Richford 1st Baptist Church, 30 School Street, Richford with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the West Hill Cemetery in Montgomery. There will be no visiting hours.
