Margaret L. Rowse

RICHFORD/LEWES, DE– Margaret L. Rowse, age 104, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021 at her home in Lewes, DE.  

She was born in Battle Creek, MI on November 29, 1916, to the late Raymond and Grace (Going) Litchfield.

Margaret grew up in Worcester, MA where she also attended Becker Business school. She raised her two daughters in Richford, VT and in her later years looked forward to spending her winters in St. Thomas. She enjoyed spending time outside cross-country skiing, walking the beach, and going for hikes and walks on Vermont back roads. Margaret was a voracious reader who loved her kindle for reading and playing games. She also enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles. Family, however, was always first in Margaret’s heart. She was incredibly close to her grandchildren who knew her fondly as “Grand Mimi”.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Brown Carlson and her husband Martin of St. Thomas, USVI; Susan Brown Shirley and her husband Harry of Lewes, DE; grandchildren, Tiffany Wiswall and her husband Keith of Lewes, DE, H. Whitfield Shirley III of Philadelphia, and Tanya Peyton of St. Thomas, USVI; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Austin, twins Braden and Aralynn, and Kai; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased her first husband, Ernest S. Brown; her second husband Wilton Rowse; and her brother, Gerald Litchfield.

A Life Celebration to include a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Richford Center Cemetery, South Richford Road, VT 05476.
