Marjolaine "Marge" Longe

October 24, 1953 — January 10, 2013

BERKSHIRE - Marjolaine (Desautels) Longe, 59, of Berkshire, passed away at her home on January 10, 2013 with her loving family at her side, after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in St. Albans on October 24, 1953, the daughter of the late Germain & Rejeanne (Beaudoin) Desautels.

Marjolaine was known as Marge to her friends and family. Marge taught us how to live and she taught us how to die - with strength, courage, and dignity. Marge was a kind and caring person and was an outstanding friend to all.

Marge loved gardening; she had the most beautiful flower beds and was known for the best vegetable gardens around. Marge looked forward to each spring so she could work the soil and find the beauty of the outdoors. After harvesting, Marge did the canning for the winter months. She also enjoyed family gatherings; if there was food to be made and work to be done, Marge was there to help. Marge also loved to sew; she made prom dresses for her granddaughters and bridesmaids dresses for her daughters wedding. These dresses are treasured memories of their wonderful grandmother and mother.

Marge loved spending time with her grandchildren; they were the love of her life. Spending time with her family meant the world to Marge. Watching her grandchildren grow and passing on her knowledge of things that she enjoyed in life was a blessing to her. This past summer they rented a camp on Lake Carmi, it was a special time for all of them. Her children, grandchildren and friends held a very special place in her heart; something that Marge was very blessed to have in her life. They always made her smile and her heart warm.

Marge graduated from Richford High School in 1971. She married her beloved husband and best friend, Patrick W. Longe Sr., on October 13, 1973. They made their home in West Berkshire, where they just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. What Marge was most proud of was her family. She remarked many times on how fortunate she was to have such a wonderful husband, children, son-in-law, daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren.

Besides her husband Patrick Sr., she leaves her children, Patrick Longe Jr. and his wife Sheila, their children Patience, Shantel, Cora and Alexsis of Franklin, Angel Hamilton and her husband Brian, their children Colby and Devon of Richford, Scott Longe, his girlfriend Darlene King and his daughter Myah of Jeffersonville; her siblings, Pierre Desautels and his wife Ginger of Green Castle, PA, Daniel Desautels and his wife Deborah of Richford, Gilbert Desautels and his wife Sally of Richford, Sylvie Desautels and her husband Chris Wood of Tunbridge, Raymond Desautels and his companion Marlene Chates of Highgate, and Renee Patterson and her husband Larry of Montgomery.
Marge also leaves her second family, Billy and Beatrice Longe of Berkshire, Ronald and Caroline Longe of Bridport, Diane Chaffee of Franklin, Steven and Janet Longe of West Berkshire and Timmy and Cindy Longe of Enosburg Falls. Marge also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased her brother Patrick Desautels and a brother in-law, David Chaffee.

Her family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their acts of kindness throughout Marges illness. Words cannot say enough to express our appreciation for the cards, food, flowers, visits and kindness that we have been given. A special thanks to Dr. Dennis Sanders and Dr. Terri Nielson and their staff, as well as the caring people from the Vermont Cancer Center at Fletcher Allen Health Care. They would also like to thank Franklin County Home Health hospice nurses for their kindness and wonderful care, which enabled Marge to live out her final months with grace and dignity.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 4-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 62 Missisquoi St., Enosburg Falls with Rev. Roger Charbonneau celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
