SWANTON – Marjorie Lottie Fitzgerald, age 89, passed away peacefully at Brownway Residence in Enosburg, VT surrounded with her family by her side on November 28, 2021.
She was born in North Troy, VT on January 3, 1932, to Philo and Lottie (Judd) Gallup. Married on April 1, 1952, to Conrad Fitzgerald. Marjorie will be greatly missed by her friends and neighbors of the Bushey Road where she resided for 65 years.
Marjorie attended Johnson State College and The University of Vermont, earning her Master’s degree in Education. She began her career teaching first grade at Elm Street School and then at the St. Albans City School before retirement. She was a member of the Swanton and UVM Alumni, and a member of the Retired Teacher Association. Marjorie was a devoted catholic and active member of the Church of Nativity. Her family will especially miss her home cooked meals and holiday dinners, not to mention her homemade donuts, cookies, and molasses popcorn balls at Christmas. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, and visits to the library. She especially loved her role as grandma.
She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife Marie of Franklin, daughter Lainnie (Elaine) LaCroix and her fiancé Ed McCollin of Hinesburg, grandchildren Johnathan and Kevin (Jennifer) Fitzgerald, Jessie and (Chris) MacKinnon, and three beautiful great-granddaughters Jordyn, Bree and Lacey MacKinnon. Marjorie was predeceased by infant daughter, Deborah Jean Fitzgerald November 20, 1954; her parents and husband Conrad May 7, 1992, her siblings Clark and Ross Gallup, and Marie Burns.
The family would especially like to thank Tom Rivers a special neighbor and friend for always looking in and being there for their mom.
Family and friends are invited to Marjorie’s Life Celebration events to include visitation on Thursday December 2, 2021, from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm at Goss Life Celebration Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, VT 05488. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 3, 2021, at 11:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 65 Canada St. Swanton, VT. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Swanton.
