EDDYVILLE, KY – Melba Jean (Colgan) Peek, age 66, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2021 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
She was born in Tupper Lake, NY on November 11, 1954 to the late Donald & Rita (Lasnier) Colgan.
Melba graduated from Hartford High School in White River Junction, Vermont. After graduation she spent time on the family farm in West Swanton until she moved to Kentucky to start a family. Melba was a homemaker and enjoyed staying home to raise her children. Above all, family was the most important aspect of her life. Melba adored her grandchildren and spent as much time as possible with them. She lived in several different places, but always looked forward to summers when she was able to return to the family farm in West Swanton. One of Melba’s last wishes was to be “back home” in Vermont, as her final resting place.
She is survived by her children, David Peek and Daniel (Tara) Peek of Eddyville, KY; siblings, Michael (Kelly) Colgan of Nottingham, NH, Marlene (Michael) Hewes of Canaan, NH, Marianne (Gary) Dickerman of Claremont, NH, Mark (Linda) Colgan of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Austin, Jacob, Haliegh, Daniel Jr. “DJ”, Dakota, Olivia “Liv”, Destiny, Xavier, Korbin Peek, Heaven Milan and Kiley Yates; nieces and nephews, Rita (Hewes) Buck, Trevor & Alex Dickerman, Jack & Drew Colgan, Brady Colgan; aunts and uncles, Clifford & Bernice “Pressie” (LaFlam) Colgan, Phyllis (Colgan) Lasnier, Helen (Best) Colgan, Elaine (Colgan) Bourdon, Roger & Cynthia (Letourneau) Lasnier; cousins, Janice, Dale & Shawn, Marcia, Kathryn & Allen, Cara & Quinn, Diane, Donna & Dina, Debra, Mary, Donna & Timothy, and Brenda, Steven, Jamie & Jason; and a very special partner, Danny Harris. Beside her parents, Melba was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Royal & Bessie (LaBombard) Colgan; maternal grandparents, Aldeas & Mamie (Wells) Lasnier; aunts and uncles, Clorith Colgan, Melba Rachel Colgan, Frank & Muriel (Colgan) DaPrato, Rene Lasnier, Robert Colgan, Fred Bourdon, Meredith & Regina (Lasnier) Marshall; cousins, Judi DaPrato, Eric “Ricky” Colgan, and Patricia (Marshall) Rounds.
Family and friends are invited to Melba’s Life Celebration graveside service on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 65 Canada Street, Swanton, VT 05488.
