SWANTON – Michael T. Baker, age 62, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2022, after a two year battle with cancer at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
He was born in Burlington on February 5, 1959 to Virginia (King) Baker and the late Robert Baker.
Mike grew up in Essex, Vermont and graduated from Essex High School in 1977. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served for four years. Following an honorable discharge, he married Laurie on August 15, 1981. They had two children who completed their family. Mike worked for IBM for 27 years, and then Ben & Jerry’s until his illness forced him into retirement. The family enjoyed traveling, camping and Vermont State Parks. Mike was artistic and crafty, always staying busy with projects. He enjoyed wood burning, writing songs, playing the guitar, and maintaining an immaculate lawn. He and Laurie met and married in the United Methodist Church. Mike loved backyard barbeques and grilling for the family. Above all, spending time with his family and especially grandchildren were the highlight of Mike’s life.
Mike is survived by his wife and soul mate of 40 years, Laurie (Lindemann) Baker of Swanton; their children, Carrie Baker and her partner Ken Messier of Sebec, ME; and Christopher M. Baker and his wife Serena of Alburgh; grandchildren, Shannon Chartier, Kaelyn Chartier, and Christopher W. Baker; his mom, Virginia Baker; siblings, Charles, Robert, Penny, and James “Jim” Baker; aunt, Barbara Baker; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mike was predeceased by his father, Robert Baker.
