BAKERSFIELD - Mildred Millie Brigham, age 87, passed away Wednesday evening at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford with her loving family at her side.
She was born May 27, 1924 in Cambridge the daughter of the late Olcott & Violet (Croft) McGowan. Millie was a 1942 graduate of Brigham Academy. On November 29, 1942 she married Albert Pete Brigham and together they operated their farm in Bakersfield until his death.
Millie was very active and proud member of the Bakersfield community. She was a member of the Bakersfield Congregational Church and the Bakersfield Historical Society. Millie had a comforting way of nurturing children. She cared for many children in her home for more than thirty years, something she thoroughly enjoyed doing. She felt that all the children she cared for were special.
She enjoyed cooking, reading and spending time with her family. Furthering ones education was very important to Millie which was evident in the encouragement and support given to her five children to graduate from college, something she was very proud of.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jerry & Jane Brigham of Bakersfield, Gail & Charles Chuck Williams of Burlington, Holly & Edward Morgan of St. Albans, Chris & Wendy Brigham of Bakersfield and Betsy Brigham & Brett Engstrom of Marshfield; her grandchildren, Jason & Jonathan Brigham, Aaron & Erica Williams, Shea Kehaya, Leah LaCross, Peter & Cagney Brigham, and Casey & Elsa Engstrom; 7 Great Grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Millie was predeceased by her husband, Albert Pete Brigham on April 21, 1986; her granddaughters, Jessica Brigham & Diane Brigham; her brothers, Gerald & Carl McGowan; and sister, Ruth Stone Machia.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Bakersfield Congregational Church, 54 East Bakersfield Road, Bakersfield with Rev. Lyle Miller officiating assisted by Rev. Lyle Willey. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 4-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
