BERKSHIRE - Monica Jean Legault, age 57, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday evening August 25, 2010 at her home with her loving family at her side after enduring a long 10 year battle with endometrial cancer.
She was born September 22, 1952 in St. Albans the daughter of Shirley (Goodhue) Mudgett and the late Frederick Mudgett.
Monica graduated from Richford High School in 1970. She continued her education and earned her Associates Degree in Child Development at Community College of Vermont. She married her high school sweetheart John C. Legault on September 4, 1971 and they had three children which they raised in the family home in Richford and enjoyed many happy years.
Together Monica and John worked side by side for 10 years farming. Their life together brought many challenges as health issues entered. Their love for each other and their bond with God carried them through many ordeals. Monicas greatest achievement was fulfilled in her lifetime, that of being a wife, mother and grandmother. This was evident throughout her life as she always put her family first and foremost as she displayed her caring heart and ways along with her love laughter and joy.
The job that fulfilled her dreams was working at the Franklin Central School. For to her this was not a job but a second home. The minute she walked through the doors she would always stop and whisper a little prayer, God help me to see the children through your eyes and not through mine . It was evident that God honored this for she was drawn to the children like a magnet and they to her.
Through her final stages of this journey, Monica was surrounded by love through her family, friends, pastor and church family. She was under a Caring Bridge website which she always would look forward to seeing her caring entries that were made to help her through the journey that she was on. She always found this very uplifting. We want to thank family and friends for their genuine care that helped her in transitioning through this journey.
Monica leaves behind by her husband of 39 years, John Legault of Berkshire;; her children, Kimberly Legault-Forty and her husband Matthew of Franklin, Tracie Hammond and her husband Scott of Tampa, FL, and Michael Legault and his wife Angie of Berkshire; her grandchildren that always brought her joy and made her smile, Ryan Legault and Ethan Legault; and 3 beloved step grandchildren, Brett, Colin & Kyle Hammond. She also leaves behind her mother, Shirley Mudgett of Richford; her five siblings and their spouses, Debra & Louie Hardy of Berkshire, Nancy & James Jewett of Franklin, Michael & Pam Mudgett of Bakersfield, Terry & Brent Martin of Bangor, ME, and Faith & Kenny Johnson of Franklin; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. Also many very dear and special friends that we will not name in fear of leaving someone out.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Richford 1st Baptist Church, School St., Richford with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Berkshire Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be private and held at the convenience of the family
Monica envisioned a Blue Light Candle Campaign encouraging prayer for people experiencing a journey that was similar to hers. To hear of the places that these candles were being lit, even in other countries, gave her a sense of warmth in her heart to know that many prayers were being said for many and that was her hope.
Monica has asked that a fund called Monicas Blue Candle of Hope be established to help children attend Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. Her family encourages that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to Monicas Blue Candle of Hope C/O Spears Funeral Home, P.O. Box 396, Enosburg Falls, VT 05450
