ENOSBURG FALLS - Nellie E. Elwood, age 90, passed away Monday morning, April 20, 2015 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born October 14, 1924 in Fairfield the daughter of the late George Byron & Gladys (Hefflin) Hill.
Nellie attended grade school in West Enosburgh and was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. She married Arnold Elwood on November 7, 1945 and made their home in Franklin where they worked the family farm and raised their children. She was a member of the Franklin United Church, Franklin Federated Women, Franklin Home Dem, Franklin Senior Citizens, American Legion Auxiliary Post #42 of Enosburg Falls, VFW Auxiliary Post 778 of Swanton and was a former member of the Franklin Grange.
Nellie enjoyed cooking homemade bread, pies, canning pickles, mincemeat venison pies, homemade catsup and baking powder biscuits, reading, knitting and watching golf on TV. She also loved to work on the farm and doing the outdoor work unless it was too hot and in her later years enjoyed feeding the calves\u0027.
She is survived by her sons, Clifford Elwood and his wife Darlene of Enosburg Falls, Ivan Elwood and his wife Shirley of Franklin, Walter Elwood of Franklin, and Spencer Elwood and his wife Laurie of West Enosburgh; her daughters, Bonnie Moseley and her husband James of Burlington, and Lynda Emch and her husband Reginald of St. Albans; 12 grandchildren & 18 great grandchildren; her brother, Gordon Buster Hill of Morrisville; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Emery (Barbara) Hill of Morrisville; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arnold Elwood; and her brothers, Emery & William Hill.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Franklin United Church, 5414 Main St., Franklin with Rev. Jason McConnell officiating. Interment will take place in the North Fairfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
A time of visitation will be held at the Church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the funeral.
