SWANTON - Norma J. Lemire, age 90, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vermont.
She was born in Swanton on March 7, 1928, the daughter of the late George and Frances (Martin) Taylor.
After graduating from Swanton High School, Norma married the love of her life, Luc Lemire who predeceased her in 1981. Norma raised six children, worked full time and kept an immaculate yard. She took pride in perfecting the outdoor jobs of mowing her own lawn, shoveling her driveway, and raking each and every leaf. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Civil Air Patrol with her brother, Donald, and worked as an inspector for several years at Fonda Container, where she retired from. Norma loved to go out dancing, she sang in the church choir, she loved to bowl and play basketball, and was an overall avid sports fan. She will be remembered for being a wonderful cook and always hosting Thanksgiving dinner. She always looked forward to March Madness basketball games, playing a game of 500 and helping on Tuesday and Friday mornings at North Country Bait and Tackle (Bruyettes). Norma enjoyed having her family close, and especially enjoyed when Kasey made visits to the nursing home to brighten her day.
She is survived by her children, Paul Lacoste and his wife Debbie of Manchester, VT, Ronald Lemire and his wife, Carla of Swanton, Patsy Bruyette and her husband, Ronnie of Swanton, Carol Hakey and her husband, Bruce of Swanton, Diane Lemire-Ouimette and her fianc, Sean P. Kirk of Richmond Hill, GA; grandchildren, Brent, Brian, Ronnie, Debbie, Jarrid, Jordin, Travis, Tracie, Jamie (goddaughter), Brandie, Amanda, Christy, John, and Jonathan; several great grandchildren; brothers, Donald Taylor and Earl Taylor of Swanton, and Arnold Taylor of Florida; sisters-in-law, Shirley Taylor, Celeste Lemire and Teresa Hemingway; a special son-in-law, John Edwards; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved granddog Kasey. Besides her parents, Norma was predeceased by her husband, Luc Lemire; daughter, Linda Edwards; grandchildren, Shane Lacoste, and Aimee Edwards Batten; great granddaughter, Natalee Ouimette; her brother, Kenneth Taylor; and sisters-in-law, Betty and Anita Taylor.
Normas family would like to thank the staff at St. Albans Rehab and NMC for the wonderful care that she received.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Swanton.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 PM until the hour of her funeral.
