It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Norma J. Mashtare at her North Hero home on Friday, June 30, 2017, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer
Born in Alburgh on, August 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel (Giguiere) Soule. She attended local schools and was married to Donaldson Hall Mashtare who survives her.
For many years Norma and Donald owned and operated West Shore Cabins. She loved her job there working and meeting new people and making many lasting friendships. She always felt that she was sharing the beauty of the sunsets with those around her. She enjoyed her winters in Hobe Sound, Florida. Norma was a member of the North Hero Fire Department Womens Auxiliary, the North Hero United Methodist Church as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, Swanton Chapter 11.
In addition to her husband Donald of nearly 62 years, Norma leaves two sons, Bruce Mashtare and Dale Mashtare and his wife Penny; a daughter, Donna Macdonald and companion Bill Johnson; a brother, Ralph Butch Soule and his wife Lynn and a sister, Carolyn Spankuch; grandchildren, Rachel (Corey), Heather, Ryan, Donald ( Barbara), Keith, Rev. Pastor Daniel ( Barbara), Lucas( Ashley), Keaton (Megan) and Braden; 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Besides her parents, Norma was predeceased by a brother Gordon Stone.
We open to all a Celebration of Normas Life , Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 1 p.m. at West Shore Cabins, Normas home, 8888 Vermont US Route 2 in North Hero. Interment will take place at a later date in Jerusalem Cemetery.
