EAST BERKSHIRE - Norman A. Doe, age 81, a much loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and brother passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, VT with his loving family by his side.
He was born September 26, 1932 in Sheldon, VT the son of the late Aubrey C. & Yvonne (Roberts) Doe.
Norman was a 1950 graduate of Richford High School. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in East Berkshire and also enjoyed sugaring and building/ carpentry work. He especially enjoyed helping his children build their homes. Norman was very active in the Berkshire community serving on the school board, fire department and as justice of the peace. He was also a member of the Masons Missisquoi Lodge # 9 of Richford and the Elks Lodge #1566 of St. Albans. Norman & Betty also enjoyed traveling around the country. He was a train enthusiast and enjoyed the opportunity to travel cross country via train.
Norman Doe was the patriarch of the Doe family. He was a powerful presence, always greeting family with a big loud "Hello" and an even bigger bear hug! He raised his 6 children on a Dairy farm in East Berkshire, where he was able to teach them many life lessons about hard work and family values. Many gatherings took place in his farmhouse on King Road, where friends and family always knew they could just open the door and be welcomed to have a seat and chat for awhile. In his later years, Norman enjoyed giving buggy rides to his grandchildren & great grandchildren. Many holidays and celebrations have been held there throughout the years, always with a huge feast and warm fire, and Norman\u0027s absence will be greatly felt in the years to come.
Norman and Betty also had a camp on Lake Carmi for many years. It was a summer home filled with lots of love and laughter, Sunday cookouts, fireworks on the Fourth of July, puzzles on a screened in porch for rainy afternoons, and loons on the lake. The camp was a place where Norman was able to teach all of his grandchildren to waterski and to hold on tight because grandpa could really get the boat going!
In 1985, Norman and his wife bought a home to enjoy winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all have wonderful memories of spending vacations with Norman and Betty and they loved welcoming them all and having special one-on-one time with each family. They enjoyed many days at Disney and SeaWorld with all the young ones over the years, and were always happy to open any of their homes to friends and family!
Those who knew Norman knew he was a solid family man who built a strong foundation for his family.
