BAKERSFIELD - Philip C. Phil Marshia, age 87, passed away at his home in his sleep on Tuesday, December 22, 2009
He was born August 10, 1922 in East Fairfield the son of the late Clayton & Veronica (Loughman) Marshia.
Phil worked construction most of his life. He loved to cut wood and in his earlier years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his later years he loved to go to the casino in New York. He was very proud to have served nearly five years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #42 of Enosburg and the V.F.W., Robert Gildden Post # 758 of St. Albans.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie (Tracy) Marshia of Bakersfield. They were married on December 31, 1947. He is also survived by his children, Veronica Draper and her husband Gary of Enosburg, Philip Marshia and his special companion, Lynn Densmore of Bakersfield, David Marshia and his wife Kathy of Enosburg, Suz-Anne Carpenter and her husband James of Enosburg, and Tracie Ghostlaw and her husband Christopher of Constable, NY; 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Carden and her husband Tom of Polk City, FL; a brother, Ramon Marshia and his wife Helen of East Fairfield; a sister-in-law, Edith Marshia of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Phil was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Jacobs, and a brother, William Marshia.
Phils family wishes to thank Dr. Laura Norris of the Cambridge Health Center and Dr. Joseph Winget of Fletcher Allen Health Care for the care provided to Phil over the last several years.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the Egypt Cemetery in East Fairfield.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 4-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.
