Phyllis Lumbra

July 9, 1927 — June 15, 2024

ENOSBURG FALLS – Phyllis E. Lumbra, age 96, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Enosburg Falls.

She was born in Bakersfield on July 9, 1927 to the late Leon & Mable (Jacobs) Patch,

Phyllis met the love of her life, Charles Lumbra, at the tender age of 14, and on August 20, 1946, they exchanged vows to begin a journey of love and companionship that lasted a lifetime. Phyllis and Charles both loved to dance and made many memories at the Moon Light Ballroom in Sheldon. She stared working as a machine operator at Union Carbide in St. Albans in 1947. She developed lasting friendships until her retirement in 1986.

A talented woman, Phyllis found joy in simple pleasures. She had a knack for sewing, crocheting, ceramics, and excelled at card games. She gave most of her crafts away to her family and friends. Her dedication to family was evident in all aspects of her life. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and anyone who had the pleasure of tasting her honey molasses cookies knows that. Nobody every left her home hungry.

She is survived by her son, Dale Lumbra and his wife Christine; grandchildren, Nicole Lumbra and her significant other Chris Brown, Brittney Zahn, and Jasmine Stratton; great grandchildren, Charles Zahn, and Wyatt Zahn; her sister-in-law, Joyce Real and her son Steve; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her siblings, Merritt Patch, Raymond Patch, Wilbur Patch, and Helen Patch.

The Lumbra family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who cared for Phyllis, especially Sonja Peck, Bridgette Stanhope, Marie Ragan, Alice Machia, Michelle Pfau, Michelle Pelkey, Sandra Murphy, and all of her physicians and their staff.

For those who wish, contributions in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the University of Vermont Cancer Center, 111 Colchester Avenue, Main Campus, Main Pavilion, Level 2, Burlington, VT 05401.
