SHELDON - Raymond E. Severance, age 80, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester.
He was born September 7, 1936 in Jeffersonville, VT to the late Clarence & Mary (Playful) Severance.
Raymond grew up in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1954. He married Yvette Crepeau on October 10, 1963 and they raised their three children in Sheldon. Throughout his career Raymond spent time working as a surveyor, followed by truck driving for H.P. Hood in St. Albans for 12 years and for Mcdermotts Inc. in Enosburg Falls for 27 years. Raymond, also known by his C.B. handle Early Riser , thoroughly enjoyed his nightly trip to Boston hauling milk; he made many friends during his time working for McDermotts.
His favorite hobby was taking care of his garden and lawn throughout the year. Raymond served on the Sheldon School Board for 15 years and the Sheldon Town Zoning Board for several years. Raymonds pride and joy was his grandchildren and he would spend time with them any chance he could.
He is survived by his wife, Yvette (Crepeau) Severance of Sheldon; 3 children, Rick Severance and his companion Heather Davies Coupal of Swanton, Greg Severance and his wife Jennifer of South Burlington and Michele Lynch and her husband Andrew of St. Albans; 5 grandchildren, Owen & Emma Severance and Mikayla, Karissa & Cooper Lynch; his brother, George Bubby Severance and his wife Nancy of Mesa, AZ; sisters-in-law, Mary Severance of Jeffersonville and Betty Severance of Sheldon; siblings-in-law, Anita Morin of St. Albans, Anne Kenyon of St. Albans, Madeline McLaren and her companion Scotty Swain of Medford, OR, Mary Paule Jackson of Sheldon, Richard Crepeau and his wife Nancy of Lebanon, NH, Danny Crepeau and his wife Sharon of St. Albans and John Crepeau and his wife Carmen of St. Albans; life-long friend, Rudolph Erno and several in-laws, nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his brothers, Bernard and John Severance, siblings-in-law, Paul Morin, Al McLaren, Donald Kenyon and Robert Jimmy Jackson and a special cousin, Arlene Safford.
Raymonds family would like to thank AmCare, the dialysis unit in St. Albans and all of his volunteer drivers that helped him get to appointments over the past few years.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 4-7:00 pm at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Anthonys Catholic Church, 117 Shawville Rd., Sheldon Springs, VT with Fr. Karl Hahr officiating.
