Colchester - Richard W. Dicky Elkins,71 , passed away at his home in Colchester on Monday evening, November 1, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.
Richard was born on May 7, 1939 in Montgomery, the son of Richard S. and Dorcas (Donna) Elkins. He attended school in Montgomery Center and was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School.
Richard worked as a truck mechanic throughout his lifetime. Richard loved his home and family and had an infectious smile and wonderful personality and sense of humor. He was happiest at home tinkering with some project.
Surviving are his wife, Linda (Rhodes) Elkins of Colchester whom he married on September 19, 1992; a son Timothy Elkins and his wife Katie of Essex; a daughter Kimberly LaPlante and her husband Gary of Milton; 2 step-sons, Merton Larrabee and his wife Kathy of Hinseburg and Daniel Larrabee and his wife Angel of Boiling Springs Lake, NC; a step daughter Lisa Walston and her husband Danny of Holden Beach, NC; 15 grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; his brothers Lyndol Elkins and his wife Lila of Montgomery, Francis Elkins and his wife Linda of Montgomery and Rocky Elkins and his wife Lori of Enosburg; his sisters Elaine Sheltra and her friend Carmen Mayhew of Richford, Charlotte Parent and her husband Raymond of Enosburg and Brenda Ostrout and her husband Joseph of Montgomery and Lindas 6 siblings who Richard was especially fond of.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by a son Ricky Elkins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave, Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Center Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
