RICE HILL - Richard Wilder Hoburn, age 69, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with his family at his side.
He was born March 14, 1940 in St. Albans the son of the late Gerald & Marion (Wilder) Hoburn.
Dick attended BFA - St. Albans. As a young man he worked at the Missisquoi Pulp Mill in Sheldon. Most of his working career he loved driving truck which he did for many area trucking companies, retiring at age 63 ½. He was also a member of the New Hampshire National Guard from 1956 to 1962.
Dick was very active in community affairs. He was a charter member of the Sheldon Volunteer Fire Dept. starting in 1957. He was also a member of the Highgate Volunteer Fire Dept. He enjoyed hunting, fishing especially with his son. He also loved working and spending time in the sugar woods with his son and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Betty (Witherell) Hoburn of Rice Hill. They were married in August of 1997. He is also survived by his children, Richard M. Ricky Hoburn and his wife Deborah of Rice Hill, and Ann Mason and her husband Ricky of Richford; 5 grandchildren, Danielle Dragon and her husband Davy, Autumn Hoburn and her friend Josh Ives, Richard Hoburn Jr., Ashley Hoburn and her friend Jacques Rainville Jr., and Jamie Hoburn; and 6 great grandchildren, Sheila, Tyler, Brayden, Erin, Caleigh & Madison; 5 step children and their families, Eileen Hayes of PA, Ronald Rabideau of NY, Sharon Hyde of NY, Lena Rabideau of OH, and Steven Rabideau of NY; several step grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; a sister, Judith Derby of West Enosburg; 1 nephew, Michael Derby and his family of West Enosburg, and 1 niece, Katherine Kathi Derby of Rochester, NH; 2 cousins, Joy & Robert. Dick was predeceased by a great granddaughter, Jenessa Rainville, who died at birth in April of 2009.
Dicks family wishes to thank Mary & Keith Turner for being there for Dick and the nursing staff and doctors at the Northwestern Medical Center and Fletcher Allen Health Care for all of the special care given to Dick during his illness.
In keeping with Dicks wishes he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Rice Hill Cemetery.
