EAST FAIRFIELD - Rita Flanders, age 81, passed away Thursday August 14, 2008 at Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans with her loving family at her side.
She was born March 1, 1927 in Bakersfield the daughter of the late Arthur & Maria (Paquette) Gendron.
Rita was a resident of East Fairfield most of life where she was a communicant of St. Anthonys Catholic Church and was a member of the East Fairfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her working career started as a cook for the Grampa Read farm where her husband worked. She also worked at George Yett Bag Company and finally working at Giant Department store in St. Albans which became Ames Department store for many years retiring in 1992.
Rita enjoyed having her family together, playing cards, quilting, gardening, canning, going to the woods with her son Raymond, sugaring with her family, trapping with her husband, and berrying with her sisters.
She is survived by her children, Linda Hall & Lisa Rotman of Williston, and Raymond & Donna Flanders of Bakersfield; her grandchildren, Mindy & Gilbert Gagner of Highgate Springs, Daryl Hall of Williston his children, Britney, Taylor & Seth and their mother Theresa all of Highgate Springs, Daren & Lisa Hall of Swanton, Jessica Flanders of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Jamie Flanders - Stenta & Mark Stenta of Bakersfield; two sisters and their husbands, Cecile & Norman Garrett of East Fairfield, and Rose & Henry Lamothe of St. Albans; sisters-in-law, Helen Murphy and her husband William, and Joyce Flanders all of Hyde Park; several nieces and nephews including a special niece Diane Andrews; and a special friend, Donna Boucher. Besides her parents Rita was predeceased by her husband Delmar Flanders on April 25, 2006. They were married on November 25, 1943. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude Ashline and Mary Jane Mitchell; a sister-in-law, Freida Jacobs; and a brother-in-law, William Flanders Sr.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in East Fairfield with Revs. Leonidas Laroche, Andre Houle, and Pierre Lavallee con-celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 6-9 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls
