Robert William Chaput was born November 28th, 1933, at home, in Pawtucket, RI to William J. Chaput and Gladys Zwicker. Robert was the oldest of siblings, Barbara, William and David.
Robert, also known as Bob, Bobby and Bobby Pins, was a lifetime joker, ornery, yet charming, especially with the ladies, charming his nurses right up until his final hours. He earned the nickname Bobby Pins when he wowed us in the bowling alley, many years ago.
He and Barbara were the best of friends growing up. A cousin remembered how Barbara and Bobby loved going to a roller-skating rink in Pawtucket, called "Bobby's Rollaway." Apparently, they were such good skaters, they became known around the place. Bobby worked at a deli with his brother, Billy, but got fired, because he always left to go roller skating.
Bob owned a family farm in Greenfield, MA. He loved being a pig farmer and the kids all loved coming to the farm, especially nephew, Dennis Beaulieu, who accompanied his grandparents to the farm every weekend to ride horses and help Uncle Bob. After selling the family farm, for reasons unknown to the family, Bob worked in maintenance at a nursing home in Rhode Island, no doubt delighting the residents with his jokes and charm.
Bob had been a resident of Montgomery, VT since the 1980's. He enjoyed his secluded slice of heaven on West Hill, where he felt at home, nestled in the woods, off the beaten path. Before retirement, Bob did some janitorial work. In recent years, he lived in Barton, Vermont, surrounded by his Maple Lane family, where he was peacefully called home to the Lord, at age 91, on February 6, 2025.
Robert was a long-time member of the St. Albans Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he had previously held the position of deacon. He always looked forward to fellowship meals and joking with the adults and kids alike. He could not resist sweets, especially ice cream.
Robert had three children, Carol, Mark and David. He was preceded in death by his older son, Mark Robert Chaput, his siblings, and special friend, Pastor Bruce Wilkerson. Robert is survived by his daughter, Carol Rakosnik, son, David Chaput, granddaughter, Kayla Chaput, numerous other (great) nieces and nephews, including Dennis (and wife, Joan) Beaulieu, and special friends Linda Roberts, Sandra DuCharme and Chris and Marlene Bouthillette.
Donations in Robert's memory can be made to the St. Albans Seventh Day Adventist Church, 27 Church Street, St. Albans, VT 05478.
