Rosaire R. Vaillancourt

December 4, 1917 — August 11, 2012

SHELDON - Rosaire R. Vaillancourt, age 94, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 11, 2012.

He was born December 4, 1917 in Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, the son of the late Alfred & Anna (Lottinville) Vaillancourt.

Rosaire and his wife, Claire, owned and operated the family dairy farm near Enosburg Falls, Vermont from 1949 to present. In more recent years, the farm was operated in partnership with their son, Pierre. The farm was the hub for his extended family from both sides of the border. Rosaire always made certain farm work would not interfere with Sunday family time especially in the summer months for family picnics at either Lake Elmore or Witchcat Falls, never very far in order to fit in between milkings.

Rosaire took much pride in his implementation of new technology. In 1960, he installed one of the first milking parlors in Franklin County, and became a distributor for Chore Boy in northern Vermont.

He had true Yankee/Quebecois ingenuity. He could easily repair anything and became known as Mr. Fix-It, often redesigning a better product. Even after he lost his sight to glaucoma he could direct and give instruction on how to solve problems.

He enjoyed a good meal always followed by dessert. In the past years, pancakes topped with his daughter and son-in-laws maple syrup was his very favorite. Before losing his vision to glaucoma, Rosaire loved doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and especially looked forward to the Sunday night card parties at the parish hall.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Claire (Noiseux) Vaillancourt of Sheldon; his children Denis, of Franklin, his wife Cindy and their two daughters Andrea and Dena; Madeleine Chapman, of South Royalton, her husband Pete and their son Christopher; Pierre, of Sheldon, his wife Mary and their children Josh, his wife Sarah, Shawn, Evan and Chelsea; Lise LaRose of Enosburg, her husband Mark, and their two daughters Renae and Danielle; Louise Greene of Berkshire, her husband Jim and their children Betsy, Michelle and Caleb; Paul of Franklin, his wife Christine and their daughters Karly and Emma; and Philip of Sheldon, his wife Lisette and their children Jonah, Emma, and Megan. He also leaves behind his great grandchildren, Noah and Del, and numerous beloved nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, great-great nephews and great-great nieces. Besides his parents, Rosaire was predeceased by his brothers Eugene, Jules, Charles, and Gerard; and sisters Beatrice Bourbeau, Leonie Begnoche, Alice Tremblay Charron, Rose Tremblay, and Bernadette Heep, and several nieces and nephews.
