BAKERSFIELD - Rose A. Allen, age 98, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.
She was born in Cambridge on November 9, 1926, to the late Aloysious & Clio (Scott) Gillespie.
A proud graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1945, Rose married Roy Allen Sr., on September 28, 1945. Together, they embarked on a journey that included the purchase of the Allen Farm in Bakersfield in 1961, with the support of Frank Jones, a cherished mentor and friend. Rose dedicated herself to her family and the farm, where she and Roy raised their six children. Their hard work led to the operation of the farm for several years, culminating in a transition in 1984 when they sold the cows and shifted to selling hay and firewood until their retirement.
Rose was a woman of many talents. She found joy in knitting, particularly crafting mittens for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cherished her time quilting and gardening. Music and reading were her constant companions, and she enjoyed snowmobiling. The spirit of community was vital to her, and she took pleasure in participating in Christmas bazaars. She was a member of the former 1st Congregational Church in Bakersfield, and the Cambridge High School Alumni Association.
Rose is survived by her children, Rodney Allen and his wife Deanna, Roderick "Rick" Allen and his wife Carol, Ross Allen and his wife Ann, and Rock Allen and his wife Joanne; daughter-in-law, Sheila Allen; 10 grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Ken, Roy III "Buddy" and his wife Sarah, Jammie, Mark, Sherry and her husband Joddie, Travis and his wife Louise, Kami and her husband Gabe, Kristin and her husband Cary, Tenylle and her husband Tommy, and Ramsey and his wife Emily; 23 great grandchildren, Justin and his wife Lauren, Carol-Ann and her husband Koby, Madeline, Kennedy, Eric, Alex, Ryan, Candace and her husband Cory, Maria and her husband BJ, William and his wife Rachna, Alexis and her husband Jake, Chelsea and her husband Nick, Colton and his wife Missy, Wyatt, Trinton, Griffin, Declan, Morgan, Rose, Reed, Eve, Rhett, and Reece; 12 great great grandchildren, Chandler, Kanaan, Gavin, Lane, Devin, Bryson, Arlin, Grennon, Chase, Charley, Bentley, and Ayda; siblings, Bert Gillespie and his wife Lois, and Connie Edwards; and many nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, Rose was predeceased by her husband, Roy Allen Sr.; her sons, Robert Allen, and Roy Allen Jr.; grandchildren, Tonya, and Rodney Jr.; great grandson, Brandon Gleason; siblings, Raphaella Devino and her husband Stanley, Maurice Gillespie, Barbara Hughes, Robert Gillespie and his wife Jeanette, Naida McNally and her husband Terrence, Priscilla Lykins, and Juanita Thomas and her husband Philip.
Rose's family would like to thank the staff from Our Lady of the Meadows and VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region for the end of life care she received.
At the family's request there will be no visiting hours and friends & family are invited to Rose's life celebration to include a funeral service on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. All are invited to join the Allen family for a celebration of Rose's life immediately following her funeral service at Stone Brook at the Dairy Center. Interment will be held this spring in Jeffersonville Cemetery.
