Roy Allen

BAKERSFIELD - Roy Guy Junior Allen, age 85, husband of Rose (Gillespie) Allen, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Franklin County Rehab Facility in St. Albans with his family at his side.

He was born September 17, 1924 in Monkton, VT the son of the late Pearley Roy Allen & Lillian Eliza (Holley) Allen.

Roy grew up and attended school in Lincoln, Vermont where his parents ran a small farm. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving stateside during WWII. On September 28, 1945 he married the former Rose Gillespie. After Roys honorable discharge, he and Rose started farming in Jeffersonville. He was backed by Frank Jones who was like a father figure and believed they would be successful. They moved to Bakersfield in 1961 and bought a farm where they raised their six sons and continued to be successful dairy farmers. They sold their cows in 1984 and continued to work the land selling hay and firewood for several years after. He attended the Bakersfield 1st Congregational Church.

Roy enjoyed going to hunting camp with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed attending farm auctions, horse pulling events, county fairs, and family reunions, visiting State parks and snowmobiling.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose Allen of Bakersfield; his children and their families; son, Roy G. Allen, Jr his wife Sheila of Bakersfield, their children Roy Buddy Allen, III his wife Sarah, and Tammy McCoy and her husband Kenneth; son, Rodney Allen his wife Deanna of Bakersfield and their children, Jammie & Mark Allen; son, Roderick Rick Allen his wife Carol of Bakersfield and their daughter, Sherry Boylan and her husband Joddie; son, Ross Allen his wife Ann of Bakersfield and their children, Travis his wife Louise, Kami Farr her husband Gabe, and Kristin Delehanty and her husband Cary; son, Rock Allen his wife Joanne of Sheldon and their children Tenylle & Ramsey; 15great grandchildren, Justin, Carol Ann, Maria, William, Brandon, Kennedy Rose, Madeline Rose, Alexis, Chelsea, Colton, Griffin, Candace, Ryan, Eric, and Alexander; 5 siblings, Pearley Allen and his wife Lucille of Essex Center, Harold Allen of New Haven, Donald Allen and his wife Margaret of Williston, Barbara McGee and her husband Dick of Shelburne, and Larry Allen and his wife Ruth of East Lawton, MI; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved son, Robert Jerome Allen; his dear grandchildren, Rodney Allen Jr., and Townya Allen Gleason; a brother, Roger Allen; and a sister, Ida Heintz.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Bakersfield 1st Congregational Church with Pastor Lyle Miller of the United Church of Bakersfield & East Fairfield officiating, assisted by Marshall True. Interment will be held next spring in the Jeffersonville Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 3-6 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
