Ruth B. Davis

August 9, 1910 — November 15, 2007

RUTH B. DAVIS, Richford, VT/Collinsville, CT passed away peacefully on November 15, 2007 at Our Lady of the Meadows.

Ruth began life at the family homestead in Bloomfield, CT on August 9, 1910 (8-9-10), the daughter of Frank and Florence (Walker) Barnard. She was fortunate to have these two good people to shape her values and teach her the meaning of love, family, and hard work. Having lived and worked through the Depression, she learned frugality and carried her appreciation for second hand and thrift shops with her into her retirement - volunteering at several local shops.

Ruth was married in1932 to Stuart Davis, and lived most of her life in the home they built in Collinsville. Camping at Dolly Copp in the White Mountains was a yearly retreat for the family. She worked for many years in the Travelers Insurance Company, retiring in 1975. After retirement, she traveled extensively, did volunteer work, and spent many happy evenings tripping the light fantastic. She loved ballroom dancing!

In 2006, she moved to Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford, and spent her last years being nearer her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the Staff at the Meadows for the tender, loving care bestowed on Mom and our family during this time. We also wish to thank friends and neighbors who watched over her in Connecticut while she was there.

She is survived by two daughters, Ginny Gometz of Bakersfield, VT, June Hart of Simsbury, CT, a sister, Florrie Kraverotis of Bloomfield, CT, four grandchildren and their spouses, Nancy LaRose (Shawn) of Waterville, Rick Gometz (Carol) of Knoxville, TN, Karen Ovitt (Brian) of Bakersfield and Rollin Miller (Jeeup) of Bangkok, Thailand, five great grandchildren, Kane and Keith LaRose, Katie and Kyle Ovitt, and Samantha Gover Gometz, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Robert and George Barnard, a sister, Hazel Beman, former husband Stuart Davis, and two sons-in-law, Jim Gometz and Bob Hart.

Memorial services will be held in the First Congregational Church, Canton Center at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 24, 2007. Following a short reception at the Church, committal services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 184 Cherry Brook Road, PO Box 133, Canton Center, CT 06020 or Our Lady of the Meadows, Residents Fund, 1 Pinnacle Meadows, Richford, VT 05476.
